DAT PLAID. If I ever save up enough of a dowry to get married, it's gonna be in one of those.
So it's crunch time for assignments which means that I'm suddenly spending a lot more time on Facebook and drawing. Sadly I have run out of pages in my sketchpad so now it's mostly the former. I'm working on a story that I have no idea how to tackle for my Research subject that involves art and censorship. I was going to go with the angle of how 15 year old virgin females can be classified as pedos due to Australia's shitty laws that criminalize shota and the like, but I dunno. The most interesting thing I found in my research was the difference between rates of child sexual abuse between Japan and Australia. We have more cases even though we don't have loli-con on our shelves, which is possible to tie in with the recent press coverage of Akihabara as the land of CP and some other stuff. I don't know how I'm going to get a strong story out of it though.
As for Sydney, it's still on the cards. My professor offered to pay for me out of his own pocket after I voiced my disappointment, but that'd just make me feel indebted. Too bad I'm not in touch with the people who I used to draw for, I coulda gotten some cash out of them for some doodles. WILL PHOTOSHOP FOR FLIGHTS ;_;

Okay but seriously. Would it help at all if you... I dunno, could consider his paying for your flight to be the flight you were meant to have, and him spending money could be considered just him buying his own ticket? So like, swapping them around? Did that make sense at all?!
Love you bb. D: <3

Date: 2010-06-09 11:51 am (UTC)Wow, really? Is that true or is it just because Japan wouldn't have proper reported statistics? weirddddddd!
Ouch, I wouldn't know what to do, he blocked your guilt trip card with a guilt/debt card too. >_>

I'm frightened it won't suit me D: Pairing it with a dusky red skirt and a white long-sleeve chemise underneath. Will post pictures once they arrive... which probably won't be in time for the concert I bought them for.
You're pretty much the only person I know who would even remotely understand buying outlandish clothes to wear in public, I must have your approval!!

And about the bod for corsets - I've totally stacked on the weight D: But we'll see what it looks like. I SO hope they arrive within seven days, otherwise I'll be so sad.

Is it because of a higher reporting rate, a cultural thing where we supposedly will report, or something else? I'm not sure.

Date: 2010-06-10 02:22 pm (UTC)As mentioned, I've researched human rights documents and such and the gap is just far too big to be because of under reporting, though that is of course a contributor. There was a 40% difference between our countries when it came to the same crime (penetration of someone under 5).

Date: 2010-06-10 03:11 pm (UTC)I don't know where you'll be, but it's 20 minutes walking from the station, and 25-30 minutes from Central by train.
I'd even offer to loan the car, except I'm not even named as an insured party on it (ie. if you speed or some incident occurs, I claim I was driving it with you as my companion driver), so that one's pushing it.
If nothing else, we can catch up, and you can complain once again I've got no life. :P

Date: 2010-06-10 03:28 pm (UTC)And don't worry, I'd be far too terrified to drive in Sydney!
You still got my mob number?

Date: 2010-06-10 03:37 pm (UTC)You still have my e-mail address don't you? Just drop me a line there. and we'll talk details, tomorrow or something.
Right now I'm going back to bed - Sister woke me up trying to find my other sister who apparently didn't show up where she said she'd be... until we find out she screwed up her arrival time by a day.
Go figure. :P

Date: 2010-06-10 03:20 pm (UTC)The reporting figure's a bit odd, because of some cultural expectations which more or less suggest that you simply don't talk about it.
It's a sort of absurd claim that Japan, unlike everyone else, likes to keep these sorts of incidents quiet. (Not quite true, because well, that's a tendency all around the world to keep it in the family as it were.)
Part of it of course is the fact such a crime is a serious allegation, and most of these cases turn out to be one party's word (Like the child) versus the accused.
It's messy like that, because a significant amount of cases really do amount to the above, and well, having some kid rock the boat on some claim (true or not) is usually frowned upon only cause, well, it's difficult to prove, and can basically cause huge dramas.
From my knowledge, the Japanese are less likely to raise potentially risky issues like that, on what amounts to a maybe, which isn't noted in most reports though.

Date: 2010-06-10 03:29 pm (UTC)Yeah that's pretty common, but I have read reports from the UN and I think Amnesty that take that into consideration when talking about sex abuse crimes in general.

Date: 2010-06-10 03:43 pm (UTC)There's a significant difference of power which means it's easier to attempt to hide it or at the very minimum bluff it out.
The real question is though - is that tendency so much bigger in Japan to represent such a skewered reporting statistic?
I'd be more inclined to look at the fact that family nudity (Skinship, and the like) would mean that the Japanese mindset sees more potential for it happening, but on the flip side, it also means they have a lot of cultural norms around it, so it's a lot less likely to happen.
Well, barring the usual psychopaths, but we're talking statistically, not the exaggerated stuff that most places push for better news.
