INTERNET

DAT PLAID. If I ever save up enough of a dowry to get married, it's gonna be in one of those.

So it's crunch time for assignments which means that I'm suddenly spending a lot more time on Facebook and drawing. Sadly I have run out of pages in my sketchpad so now it's mostly the former. I'm working on a story that I have no idea how to tackle for my Research subject that involves art and censorship. I was going to go with the angle of how 15 year old virgin females can be classified as pedos due to Australia's shitty laws that criminalize shota and the like, but I dunno. The most interesting thing I found in my research was the difference between rates of child sexual abuse between Japan and Australia. We have more cases even though we don't have loli-con on our shelves, which is possible to tie in with the recent press coverage of Akihabara as the land of CP and some other stuff. I don't know how I'm going to get a strong story out of it though.

As for Sydney, it's still on the cards. My professor offered to pay for me out of his own pocket after I voiced my disappointment, but that'd just make me feel indebted. Too bad I'm not in touch with the people who I used to draw for, I coulda gotten some cash out of them for some doodles. WILL PHOTOSHOP FOR FLIGHTS ;_;

Pffft, I would have made him pay>_>;; You sacrificed a lot for this!
I hope your research goes well. I wouldn't trust any statistics on Japanese crime though. They just like to ignore problems over there>_>;;

[identity profile] friezaess.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 12:09 pm (UTC)(link)
About the stats, I did some more research (my eyes are dead from reading too many PDF files and human rights diatribes) and even with the dodgy incidences of reporting crimes, there's still a pretty big gap between our two countries rates of pedophilia that can't be accounted for. Not that this really says anything on its own, but it is nice proof that we're loony for prosecuting people who draw pictures of Bart and Lisa doing it.

Oh my freaking I love those dresses that's fucking hot fffff PLAID and that white wedding dress is gorgeous but OH MY GOD THE PLAID I LOVE IT ALL <3 <3 <3

Don't feel indebted! Take his monies!! He took your flight, after all! >:( /lacking_conscience

Okay but seriously. Would it help at all if you... I dunno, could consider his paying for your flight to be the flight you were meant to have, and him spending money could be considered just him buying his own ticket? So like, swapping them around? Did that make sense at all?!

Love you bb. D: <3

[identity profile] friezaess.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 12:11 pm (UTC)(link)
I kinda get what you're saying, but yeah, blah, I'd just feel bad. CURSE YOU, INFERIORITY COMPLEX! Maybe I can make him get me a job or something, I know he likes the articles I've written ;_; (lol @ the thought of an employed journalist)

And yeah, plaid is sexy as hell. I wish to make it my bride.

[identity profile] vysanthe.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 11:51 am (UTC)(link)
Cool plaid yo.

Wow, really? Is that true or is it just because Japan wouldn't have proper reported statistics? weirddddddd!

Ouch, I wouldn't know what to do, he blocked your guilt trip card with a guilt/debt card too. >_>

[identity profile] friezaess.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Japan has shit reporting when it comes to sex crimes, but it still doesn't account fort he massive gap between our two countries, and their lower rates have been confirmed by human rights groups. Oh Japan, you and your contradictions.

INORITE. Curse journalists' superior mind games, no wonder so many of them end up in PR :(

[identity profile] friezaess.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 01:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh and by the by, are you going to post any of the pictars you took on the weekend? You seemed pretty trigger happy with your camera XD

i'd totally go the middle dress O_O THE FRILLS. OH MY.

[identity profile] friezaess.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 01:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Even her bouquet is epic!

[identity profile] damasquerade.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Christ, if red was my colour I'd want to get married in the middle one.

Having said that... You've seen the red bustier I've ordered that I've been posting about on Fasebuk, right? I'm frightened it won't suit me D: Pairing it with a dusky red skirt and a white long-sleeve chemise underneath. Will post pictures once they arrive... which probably won't be in time for the concert I bought them for.

You're pretty much the only person I know who would even remotely understand buying outlandish clothes to wear in public, I must have your approval!!

[identity profile] friezaess.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 01:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Just clicked onto your Fagbook, that's friggin hawt and yes you MUST post pictars. I think it'll suit you fine, you have a nice bod for corsets. Don't forget to accessorize like a mofo.

[identity profile] damasquerade.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 01:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Accessorise like a pirate wench mofo!

I'm thinking some sort of flowing scarf and gold hoop earrings. Got nothing much beyond that x_X

And about the bod for corsets - I've totally stacked on the weight D: But we'll see what it looks like. I SO hope they arrive within seven days, otherwise I'll be so sad.

[identity profile] friezaess.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
You could stock up on gold bracelets and have them all up your arms, and lots of necklaces. Boots with buckles are also a plus! Pirates are all about the booty so you should go crazy with bling :3

I hope it gets to you in time, it'll look so sexy on you <3

[identity profile] damasquerade.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG, bling... I didn't even think of that. That would be awesome.

[identity profile] atratus-rowena.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd put $20 towards your flights if you give me a paypal to send it to.

[identity profile] friezaess.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
That's kind of you Disa-baby, but put it towards bills- they're putting up our electricity again! I'll find the cash somehow :3

[identity profile] illusionbreaker.livejournal.com 2010-06-09 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
It might not be worth much, but I can offer a place to stay if you need it if you need somewhere to stay during the period.

For most part, what you dug up is one of those things which makes the whole child protection issue a little more blurry.

Is it because of a higher reporting rate, a cultural thing where we supposedly will report, or something else? I'm not sure.

[identity profile] friezaess.livejournal.com 2010-06-10 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Where are you at in Sydney? I may take you up if you're not too far out and I can buy you lunch in return :)

As mentioned, I've researched human rights documents and such and the gap is just far too big to be because of under reporting, though that is of course a contributor. There was a 40% difference between our countries when it came to the same crime (penetration of someone under 5).

[identity profile] illusionbreaker.livejournal.com 2010-06-10 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I live out in Bankstown - As long as you're going to be here before the end of August, I can host you. (Because I don't have to declare to my parents you came here cause they're out of the country.)

I don't know where you'll be, but it's 20 minutes walking from the station, and 25-30 minutes from Central by train.

I'd even offer to loan the car, except I'm not even named as an insured party on it (ie. if you speed or some incident occurs, I claim I was driving it with you as my companion driver), so that one's pushing it.

If nothing else, we can catch up, and you can complain once again I've got no life. :P

[identity profile] friezaess.livejournal.com 2010-06-10 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be awesome, thanks so much. I *think* it's on the 29th of June, in which case I'd probably come on the 28th and leave on the 30th if that works for you. The conference is just in the city, I have some relatives down south but they're like at least 2 hours away from the city.

And don't worry, I'd be far too terrified to drive in Sydney!

You still got my mob number?

[identity profile] illusionbreaker.livejournal.com 2010-06-10 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Somewhere in one of old notebooks - I've shelved a lot of my work with conventions these days (Since I'm going towards gaming outside Australia, with a very recent rehire), so it'd take me a few days to find it.

You still have my e-mail address don't you? Just drop me a line there. and we'll talk details, tomorrow or something.

Right now I'm going back to bed - Sister woke me up trying to find my other sister who apparently didn't show up where she said she'd be... until we find out she screwed up her arrival time by a day.

Go figure. :P

[identity profile] illusionbreaker.livejournal.com 2010-06-10 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
(Go me. I'm half asleep, was interrupted due to people ringing me up like half my family trying to figure out where one of my sisters is at the moment.)

The reporting figure's a bit odd, because of some cultural expectations which more or less suggest that you simply don't talk about it.

It's a sort of absurd claim that Japan, unlike everyone else, likes to keep these sorts of incidents quiet. (Not quite true, because well, that's a tendency all around the world to keep it in the family as it were.)

Part of it of course is the fact such a crime is a serious allegation, and most of these cases turn out to be one party's word (Like the child) versus the accused.

It's messy like that, because a significant amount of cases really do amount to the above, and well, having some kid rock the boat on some claim (true or not) is usually frowned upon only cause, well, it's difficult to prove, and can basically cause huge dramas.

From my knowledge, the Japanese are less likely to raise potentially risky issues like that, on what amounts to a maybe, which isn't noted in most reports though.

[identity profile] friezaess.livejournal.com 2010-06-10 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)

Yeah that's pretty common, but I have read reports from the UN and I think Amnesty that take that into consideration when talking about sex abuse crimes in general.

[identity profile] illusionbreaker.livejournal.com 2010-06-10 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Most protection groups seemingly ignore that reality, at least when they campaign for the issue. I haven't read the UN article, but Amnesty International noted that on a good day, this sort of crime is a social and legal minefield.

There's a significant difference of power which means it's easier to attempt to hide it or at the very minimum bluff it out.

The real question is though - is that tendency so much bigger in Japan to represent such a skewered reporting statistic?

I'd be more inclined to look at the fact that family nudity (Skinship, and the like) would mean that the Japanese mindset sees more potential for it happening, but on the flip side, it also means they have a lot of cultural norms around it, so it's a lot less likely to happen.

Well, barring the usual psychopaths, but we're talking statistically, not the exaggerated stuff that most places push for better news.
