AI-Con run down

Oh lord. So many things, so little Interbutt. For one, my hair has not been this short since I was a child -_- I went to the hairdresser yesterday and he said that the ends had snapped off due to bleaching O_O I did not need to hear that!
But you kids all want to hear the AI-Con report, don't you? Bah.
As per usual, we stayed up all night Thursday at Jaq's place working on cosplay and still didn't get the Utena outfits completley finished. The only affordable long white pants I could find were a size 22 O_O It was fun attempting to take them in >.> (Jaq: IOU one sewing machine needle. Damn thick material.)
Markling was kind enough to pick us up before sunrise and drive us all the way out to the airport (Sorrell baked him a Coke Cake as thanks) where we met up with Nicole, and I enjoyed a Midori and pineapple juice at eight o'clock in the morning. (Shut up, I do it every time I get on a plane to calm my nerves >.<) It was Dani's first ever plane flight, and it was exceedingly amusing watching her during takeoff and landing. (Though I think the resident technogeek was having just as much fun.)
Now, Hobart airport is... well... it's something. We'd been making Tasmania jokes the entire flight, which ultimatley led to my LOLing as we passed a small, run down building out in the middle of nowhere with a couple of trucks outside it and the words "Tasmania International Airport" emblazened on it. The domestic was pretty much a suped up shed, complete with sniffer dogs and a truck to bring us our luggage. Poor Kat had been waiting there since midnight. She and Nicole hopped on a shuttle to the hostel, whilst our crew took the slightly cheaper option of putting in for a taxi. So much bush around the place. It's a very hilly region, so you couldn't actually see the city until you were more or less on top of it.
We checked into the hostel and caught up with AVCon's one and only Granty before heading off to lunch, where Boof came to join us. HOBART HAS SUSHI ROLLS THE DIAMETER OF YOUR FOREARM! O_O Damn those things were huge. Everyone else headed back to the hostel for a quick power nap, but Dani and I hung around so dearest Boofy could take us to kick Chibi-kun XD I can see why he has so many fangirls, he's such a nice guy :3 Him and Dani played DDR whilst Boof won me a funky little Chinese fan, ultimatly making him my 'fan'boy. OH T3H PUNNINESS LOLOLOLOL!11!
Also caught up with two fellow BASsians, Krazy and CPOK, the former of which had asked hotel reception if they had a spare tyre. ...
Let's skip straight foward to the first day of the con. I pretty much told peeps there was no way in hell we were walking there, so we ended up PTing it to the Uni. (DOn't get me started on Tassie busses that require you to push the back door open.) We got our rego, glomped random committee members, and headed for the opening ceremony. There was more glomping at the end of that with cries of "ZOMG, I know you from the forums!".
First activity on the agenda was cosplay chess, which kinda dragged on a bit. I think our team lost. And it rained. The rain gods do not smile on anime conventions. A lot of random wandering was had. Dani held her cosplay panel appropriatly right before the competition. It was quite amusing to see Manfaye as the opening image for the presentation O.o Unlike me, she wasn't as reliant on Powerpoint notes ^^; Next of course was the hallowed cosplay competition, of which Dani and I had scrawled a script for only moments before her panel. I thought our skit was pretty amusing, with myself as Touga, Kat as Juri, Jaq as Anthy and Dani as Utena. Unfortunatly the judges gave no marks for performances or acting. FAIL!
Getting to the games and art room was somewhat interesting, given that you had to cross a slippery cement overpass X_x Bah. Good thing we didn't have to spend too much time there. Widya rocked up and took a few photos of our cosplay group, and just as Jaq and Dani were doing some hawt yuri poses for the camera, I felt something fuzzy on my hand, instinctivley clenched it, and was soon wailing in pain. I went to Evo and Sophie for First Aid, who introduced me to Dale the security guy. Turns out it was just a beesting (right between my fingers X_x), and I got to hold onto some frozen milk until it numbed a bit. I was about to rush off and have a quick look at the vendors before my yaoi panel was due to be on, but found that a secret rendevous in the stairwell with Dani and Daffyd was far more interesting. Now, Daffyd is also one of AI-Con's Very Awsome People (tm), and I wish we'd had more time to discuss things con whore to committee member. (I guess I'm also a committee member... but methinks this was very much an enlightening session for everyone involved.) I really hope I can kick him again before next AI-Con XD
My yaoi panel was... eh... so-so. I'd only compiled my notes into a Powerpoint presentation the night before due to being busy with other stuff, and with a lack of script had no idea what would be coming up on the screen when I clicked O.o But it was an amusing hour or so to fill in before AI-Con Icon.
AI-Con Icon. *sigh* So much fun for the participants, but painstakingly tedious for the audience as people were called out one by one for multiple events to talk about themselves to be given a score out of twenty by each of the three judges. I only got all 20's once, and that was in the special talent section where I drew yaoi pr0n of Chibi and Daffyd. Oh so amusing!
We left soon after the event finished, and Dale happened to be at the same busstop as us. He took a group of us to a karaoke bar that could only be described as bogan. Picture people dressed as koalas and drunks belting out their own personal rendition of Ke Sahn. Dani and I pulled a repeat of our birthday karaoke last year and sang "Born to be Wild", whilst other members of our group like B-kun and Megan got up their and sung a few classics themselves. (I'm sorry for not being able to recall much as I'm trying to repress the memories of drunk chicks and taxi driver cosplays.) It was a good time to socialise though. Poor Amber had had just about enough of it come 1am, and we headed back to the hostel for some much needed sleep.
Needless to day, Sunday was less populated than Saturday. We rcoked up late, around 11ish, seeing as there wasn't any events on 'til, like Fruits fashion. It was set up rather well, and a heap of Melbournites took out prizes including Dani in her shmexy Wa-Loli outfit. She spent the rest of the trip picking up guys thanks to her lovely lady lumps. Pity they were all bogans, though I think she could build a nice life for herself down in Tassie! I believe her prize was some sort of expensive plushie and the love and admiration of cosplayers and horny bogans alike <3
Who Wants to be a Pockyaire was good, except for the audience participation round. Of course I was making yaoi remarks through the whole thing, which got both cheers and groans from the crowd. I didn't get all that far though.
Spike: You need to watch more anime.
Fri: I do, just not the kind you watch.
Now I'm really skimming here due to time restrictions at this here Internet Cafe, but some of us were really hanging out for the Closing Ceremony. I'd purchased a bottle of chagmpagne beforehand that everyone chipped in for, and we all came down the front (somewhat unannounced... hope we wern't being rude ;_;) and presented it to them with cries of "Happy first con to you!"
Let's fast foward to the afterparty. Like everything in HObart, the pub closed early and left us stranded for places to drink until a kind young Tasmanian offered up his place for more festivities. We walked there (as you can do down south, with the city and the suburbs being only metres away) and got drunk. I got my programme book signed by committee members, a la the Manifest trend ^^ We also played a drinking game. Oh dear. I got a tad tipsy during that one and would rather ignore the amount of times I had to take a sip ^^;;;
I woke up the next morning still a little tipsy and smelling of Midori. Soon we had checked out, dumped our bags at the hostel and were on an early bus to the Cadbury Factory for a grand tour. Given the dodgey bus schedule, our group rocked up an hour early, followed by the OzTAKU peeps and finally the AI-Conites. Poor Spike! He showed up too late and couldn't come! I had to give my poor hide plushie to the staff members before we could go on the tour, who seemed to delight in torturing him ;_; When I got my stuff back at the end of the tour, he wasn't there! I was mortified until they finally found him and gave him back... with lots of chocolates taped to him! That was so sweet of them! (The tape ripped the material off his boots, but it's the thought that counts!)
The rest of the day involved various meetings and partings; half the AI-Con committee including Takato, Billi, Boof and Blah of course, and Evo showed us around the place. We ended up in a park that was Hobart's answer to Flinder's Street and reclined before bidding our farewells and heading back to the shed. I mean airport. We arrived home just as the sun was setting ^^
I shant go into the details of what happened after that, for that is a story for another time. But AI-Con was a blast. I didn't exactly buy much- only had a badge made of my hide plushie from the OzANimart table, but still managed to spend all my money o.o
Jaq, Dani, Sorrell: I want to catch up with you guys sometime this week or before the next MOC to discuss what was talked about on the bus from the Cadbury factory. Convention politics for the fail!
But you kids all want to hear the AI-Con report, don't you? Bah.
