Brief wrap up
Jul. 20th, 2006 06:12 pmOh my, things can certainly go wrong when you're getting drunk in Adelaide. But we'll get to that.
All up, this year's AVCon was somewhat more positive than the last one I attended. I can't go into too much detail given the time restraints, but there were certainly some highlights.
See, the big pair of wings I made for my Chihaya cosplay had to be attached to me via duct tape. I wasn't game enough to take them off until after the convention, which meant I had to sleep and somehow shower in them. It was somewhat distressing when Ii was trying to sleep and they got caught in the handrail of my bunk O.O;;; I had to get Bryan to free me TT_____TT
Everyone looked so spanky in their various cosplays. On Friday a bunch of kids stayed in the hostel whilst the remainder of us headed out to see Howl's Moving Castle at the launch parteh. Hannah and I ended up going back to Avi and David's hotel room (nothing suss XD) for various alcohols, before collapsing into bed after suffering the sideffects of climate change. (Thanks to Drew who picked us up from the airport that day :D)
The next day was of course time for everyone to let their hair down and get their geek on. Shi and I got to bi-pass the line as we were in charge of producing AVCon Idol (how many conventions have I been to this year, and how many have I actually had to pay to get into?). Well now. Not enough people had pre-reg'd, so it just turned into a generic singing competition. With a couple of audience games here and there. BAH.
Actually I didn't end up leaving the panels theatre until about halfway through the arvo, though I still somehow managed to miss the yaoi panel =.=
I can't believe Wai-Con beat Manifest at the quiz night =.= *kicks Sonictail repeatedly* You may have kickass DVDs and brainsmarts, but we have ATTENDEES! ^_~ lulz.
I do believe I also drank that night, before retiring to the old faithful Blue Galah. Clyde, Mark, Jaq, Kat, Anthony and Bryan were crashing in my room, so it was a pretty good crowd. (All you POPULAR people, gtfo! XD)
Sunday is the day everyone talks about because of the cosplay competition, which I'll have to go into detail on eventually. Not as much stoof to do on the Sunday, especially in the afternoon. The second day of a con always attracts less people, but it would've been nice to have had more things going on inbetween the cosplay and closing ceremony.
Most events started late. Makes me feel a tad less guilty about the way I managed Manifest's karaoke last year ^^;
The afterparty was great for socialising, and a fair few amount of people took it upon their own to... shall we say... improve intercon 'relations' ^_~ Where else but Adelaide?
Unfortunatly, even though I'm usually pretty good with drinking, this time I surpassed my limit. I think it was the alcohol mixed with having a cold and not eating anything for most of the weekend. I ended up collapsing into the ladies room ill, before passing out. How eloquent. Some ladies from the bar climbed over the stall and gave me some water, which was an absolute LIFE SAVER. But then I passed out again >.< When I was finally able to get to my feet, the lights were up and everyone had disappeared from the bar, taking my coat and wallet with them O_O That's the definition of an "Oh shit" moment. I was absolutley terrified about how I was to get back, but one of the bar staff gave me $10 and pointed me towards the cab rank. I seriously need to send that pub a thank you card and a money order.
The next day we spent down at Glenelg. It's kind of like Stones Corner with a beach. We had deep fried goodies on the beach, and got to experience Adelaide trams; let me tell you, these pansy-ass Melbourne trams with their pissy little bells they ring could never pull one over on an SA tram- "HONK HONK!"
Oh yeah, and I had Rose Bubble Tea. Byron, I don't see why you make such a fuss- it tastes like perfume O.o
Anyways, like I said, AVCon was generally a positive experience and a great catch up session. I shall go into more detail when I get the con report typed up. (Which reminds me... represented Manifest... spoke for AI-Con... did research for ANN.au... I think I need more hands TT___TT)
