WARNING! RANTING AHEAD!!

Grr. Bloody Supanova, trying to put a ban on male crossplayers. I mean for gawd's sake, you can't have an anime con without big fat guys with much body hair in short skirts! Eh... dammit. I forgot again- Supanova's NOT an anime convention, despite what the uneducated population of Brisbane believe. Talk about naievity. Then again, it's not like most of them know any better. I pity the otaku who get so hyped up about Supanova and dismiss actual anime conventions as rather mild compared to the infamous pop culture expo.

Supanova. Is not. An anime convention!

It's missing half the competitions anime cons have, as well as panels and events. *whimpers for ye hallowed anime auction* I won't start on my rant about bootlegs being sold there, but you all know how much that pisses me off. Another thing- anime conventions should not go out of their way to be G-rated. Animania, I'm looking in you're direction. Both it and Supanova try to make everything family-orientated, despite the fact the majority of people are adults.

*sigh* I really need to experience cons to get an idea of what classifies as a good con these days. I still mourn Animania. Some people think I'm out to get them because they're not the best con in Australia or something. Ugh. I'm sure I've said this before, but (as geeky as this is sure to sound) nothing's more depressing to the devout otaku than when a good anime con goes bad. VERY bad. Animania '03 was cool. Sure I preffered Manifest because it had more stuff to do (I think I'll always remain very loyal to Manifest), but Animania was still great fun, and in my opinion better than Supanova.

I guess it's all to do with the statement "For fans, by fans". One doesn't realize how much that statement matters until they're thrown into a realm of commercialism, where the minority rules.
