Mini Animania, amongst things.
Mini Animania.
What can I say.
I was there purley to help out with the Anime Anytime stand, because I enjoy volunteering at cons. We spent a whole lot of time on our feet, and by the end of the day I could barely walk! Ouch! We spent several hours setting up the night before (plushies don't stick well to walls when you use masking tape...), then Gerard didn't get to price tag everything the next day due to them opening the doors early. Which led to me asking how much everything cost every three seconds >.> Gah. I wish I could have been more useful!
But it was definatly a good catch up session. I saw several BAS people, but had a hard time recognising a lot of people who seemed to know me. Got a few pics which I'll post later.
What else? Well, like I said, I spent most of my time behind the stall and I really wasn't interested in checking out the rest of the con. I mean, come on- it's ANIMANIA. David was sure to give an insightful running commentary. I made a quick rush to the fangroups area half-way through in order to buy some badges. All good. *wears her "Gendo is my pimp" pin with pride* Anime Anytime's stall was right in front of the karaoke, and MAN OH MAN were there some bad singers. Not to mention the amount of times I heard the Eva theme. Dammit- me and Dani needed our bogan version there!
Believe it or not, I liked Mini Animania better than actual Animania. Perhaps it was because it was on such a small scale that it regained at least some of the down-to-earth, less-cooporate feeling it lacked last year. I didn't mind it. $20 was really freaking expensive though, for just one day. And I'm suprised it wasn't adverised more, especially considering how Animania's looking to expand itswrath business to Brisvegas. Some people estimated it only got around 250 people.
It was an interesting venue, up in the Holiday Inn hotel. Again, something that's been barely advertised as much as it should have been in an out of the way hotel floor instead of a more public arena... blah. There was a cool Advent Children cosplay group which two of my friends were in, but I'm wondering why Jack Skelington was allowed in the cosplay competition. *shrugs*
Gerard was kind enough to shout us dinner the night beforehand, and also gave me a cushion with lotsa CLAMP characters on it the next day for helping out! I managed to forget the fact that it was an anime con, and didn't realise I'd need spending money. Oh well. I now own a hide CD (Ja, Zoo) and a cool Pocky keyring that lights up. As well as four badges.
I hope I at least left David-kun with plenty of bite marks XD
RANDOM HIGHLIGHT: As two young men browsed through the shitijiki (pencil boards) on sale, I mentioned they should buy a Gravitation one. One looked confused, but the other one played the role of "know it all" by replying. "Oh yeah, Gravitation. It's a mech anime."
Afterwards I went to Adam's place where we had dinner, watched American Beauty (AWSOME flick), and then headed to our favourite watering hole in the Valley. Ah yes, the resident gay bar. I must say, watching someone you've known for at least half your life getting hot and heavy with someone is somewhat off-putting. Akin to seeing a sibling getting it on I suppose. I wasn't really in a drinking mood though. Saw some old primary school friends, including my old friend Alana. Drunk as ever. She's the reason I can't really tolerate overly rough/bogan females.
Today was Father's Day, and Dad loved the Eidelweiss music box I gave him. Mum dragged us over to my Uncle's for a family gathering, and... it appears I was still wearing my badge that reads "I [heart] YAOI" from the previous day @_@ As we sat down to dinner, "we" including my cousin's new boyfriend, her 80+ year old grand father, and a couple of former-alcoholic old men, I was asked what Yaoi was. I calmly replied "Homosexuality in Japanese cartoons". ... "Amazing the stuff you learn at barbaques," my uncle added.
That's more or less everything up to speed. I like resting. I like it very much. Tomorrow I'm sleeping in and then going out for ice cream with Dad. I miss my friends, but I do like being home.

Jack Skellington was probbaly allowed due to the Kingdom Hearts. I love that game, I really do, but it has allowed Disney characters in anime conventions >_<
Glad to see your dad likes his present -.-
