I don't think it can make it any worse, so it might be worth a try.
That said, I'm not sure how much of that claim is fact and how much is just marketing... and if the dye's soaked into the whites, it probably won't do anything at all.
Mum reckons there are products for getting dye out, possibly from a company called Dylon. Check out the stuff at a supermarket to see if there's anything specialised that might help first. *hugs*
